All types depends on the line this line uses 136 and 141 in a few spots.

IS that truck flash butt welding them rails or just pulling them out for laying?

Yes, it is going in reverse.

The truck is interesting, it looks like part of it is on rubber tires outside of the gauge, witht the weight on the ties. I would have thought the weight of the rail would have flipped it over like a toy, but obviously not.

I'm guessing that there are 'normal' locomotives pulling the whole show, with the truck being pulled along by the coupler as shown. It would appear that the special equipment on the truck and it's trailer could move by highway to the next operation.

Interesting series; thanks for posting them. #6 especially;
fascinating how "bendable" these rails are as they are moved
down to ground level! So it's good heavy stuff-- 136, 141.
Just idly wondering where these rails are actually made; is
there a maker's mark; I know there are always "date marks"
on rail. IIRC, there are a series of "//////" slash marks
which indicate the month of manu., 6 slashes would be June.
Some mainline rail is Asia-origin, some domestic US.

Other marks such as 0136/12 could show 136 weight, made 2012.
Not that important really- the pics are what count here- thx again.

For those of us that don't know, and I am sure there are a thousand or so. Where is the K line on the BNSF? It runs from where to where? Please think of the rest of the fans that don't live close by. Thx

This line desperately needs it....22 slow order in 144 miles is ridiculous

The K line (Actually called the Hannibal subdivision) runs from Burlington, Ia to St Louis, Mo along the western banks of the Mississippi River.

Get ready they are starting maintenance shortly as they plan on replacing four bridges along the line. Plus ties and rail. Plus they are suppose to relocate the rail on the fort belafantaine bridge at West Alton, Mo that goes over the Missouri River to the center of the bridge.

Another heads up if you want photos of the searchlight signals on the brookfield side to Galesburg, IL get them soon. This summer they are getting ready to put PTC in and they will be replacing them. This goes for Signal Bridge at the east end of the yard too.

Interesting, I always had an uneasy feeling going over that bridge.....down to 10 mph because of tonnage restrictions only thinking about how concrete was falling off the piers/abutments
