Two-train Saturday morning
Author: oyw

I really had a lot to do yesterday but when a friend called and said a couple of new BNSF ES44C4's were coming west, I had to give it a try. The weather was "pea soup" at home in Upland and by Cajon the skies began to clear but the first train was just too early to do anything with. Knowing the next train was about an hour away, I headed up to the Hesperia area but then I got another call. A late Amtrak #3 with a BNSF unit added was running right behind the train I was waiting for. The morning consisted of chasing just these two trains as well as a little cloud dodging.

1) The first train had leader BNSF 6547 and is seen passing near the Hesperia airport a little after 8:30AM.

2) I followed him down to the usual shot from the rocks at Pine Lodge, you can't tell from the photo but clouds were seconds away.

3) I waited on the edge of the clouds down at Cajon Campground for the second train, Amtrak #3 led by BNSF 7271.

4) Down at Verdemont the clouds were gone, replaced by haze. Both trains together as #3 runs around the 6547.

5) A more overall shot of #3 at Highgrove (between Colton and Riverside).

6) Lastly, the 6547 also at Highgrove exactly two hours from when I began.

Thanks for looking at another installment of "Orange GE's on Cajon."

Nothing like a good old chase to get the juices flowing. Nice shooting Bob.

Heh, "Pumpkin GE's" might sound more irritating.

Nice two-for-one with the Pumpkin Chief and the shiny GEVO. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
