Afternoon on Union Pacific's Wagoner Sub...
Author: oklachaser

This past Monday I caught a few trains on the UP Wagoner Sub in Northeastern Oklahoma.
Photos taken April 22, 2013.
Photo 1: Southbound UP 5806 Coal Train at Braggs, Ok.
Photo 2: Northbound UP 8709 & patched SP 6222 pulling what I believe to be grain hoppers by Hanson, Ok.
Photo 3: DPU on Northbound UP 8709.
3 more to follow.

Thanks for looking.

Hooded tri-light signals replacing hooded tri-light signals! Is is a case of led lights replacing incandesant lights?

Looks like quite a few loose spikes on the inside edge of the inside rail there in pic 4.

Do you know what the traffic levels are on this sub?

Thanks.

Yes, they've been in the process of changing over to led signal lights for the past several months.

Wonder if an upgrade to CTC is in the works? The new signal has two lights on the bottom signal head instead of one. Also see a crate next to the switch. Maybe it contains a switch machine?

Yes, CTC is well underway on the UP Wagoner Sub. Signal cutover is happening this week. As a result a lot of traffic has been diverted off of the Van Buren Sub. Hopefully once the CTC is complete, the grain, oil and some extra coal trains will return. UP currently runs about 12-18 trains a day over the line between Wagoner and Van Buren, AR. 2010 UP ran almost twice that amount. Hopefully it will return.
