Train Rides on the Oregon Pacific Railroad this Memoria
Author: Brian894x4

For anyone that might be interested, the Oregon Pacific Railroad will be hosting public train rides on Memorial Day (May 27th) at Oaks Station. Oaks Station is located directly across from Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon.

Times will be approximately 10am until sometime in the evening when we all get tired. We don’t have a set schedule. Trains will run when enough people arrive to ride and last about 40 minutes round trip. The route will be the same as used for the Holiday Express if you’re local and familiar with that event that we host every winter with ORHF and their steam locomotives.

The consist will be OPR’s No. 1413, a GMD-1 switcher, our former Samtrak caboose and open air car, Chris McLarney’s restored UP caboose and Portland Traction Company No. 100, an EMD SW1.

Prices are $5 per person to ride in any of the cars or cabooses, or $10 if you want to ride in the cab of the locomotive.

We should have a speeder or two there and if so, rides in the speeders will be $5 per person.

We’re doing the same thing July 4th. The only difference is we expect a lot more speeders and we’ll be there from 10am until after the 10pm fireworks at Oaks Park.

As a side note, we also offer private charters on other weekends.

Thanks!

A couple of shots from the slightly rainy day. When we got to the North end, the train waited for Amtrak number 11 to head south. A nice gesture. Plentiful waves from the crew of number 11 and then they ducked under streetcar heading North OMSI to the right and plenty of flags to denote the are of construction for the MAX light rail line being extended Southward. OMSI is home to SP 4449 and SP&S 700 and others now. OMSI is Oregon Mechanical (??) and Science Institute, or something like that. Gotta look that one up one day.
