Mural Monday; Blue Lake, Ca
Author: shortlineer

On a recent trip to the coast I decided to cruise the old Arcata & Mad River right-of-way. What a neat line this must have been "back in the day". I remember seeing three of their GE 44 Tonners sitting by the side of the road in 1986 or 87.

Certainly worth the side trip off of Highway 299...

2. Old Annie & Mary Depot, now a museum.

Only in the grade crossings. There was a proposal to rebuild the line back in 1997 but, with a $5mil plus cost and no connection to the outside world, the plan was shelved. According to online sources, a creditor of the NWPY tore up the track and sold it for scrap as partial payment on their debt.

1. Rails in Street
2. Rails near the mill site

Photo 2- Us building some track to operate it out of it's car barn in Samoa.

Photo 3- The Arcata and Mad River 7 in our roundhouse.
