A Warbonnet, Grinstein's and Orange on Joint Line

Nothing spectacular, just a little variety of BNSF paint schemes this morning on the Denver to Pueblo Joint Line (aka, the neighborhood:})
Also since most of the rear DPU's were facing the right way instead of nosed into the train, I also included those shots as well!

1)Having just crested the Summit of the grade out of Denver at Palmer Lake, BNSF 6406 and 5754 are now in dynamic braking as they head downhill towards Pueblo. The Inn at Palmer Lake is in the background.

2)I usually don't like to shoot trains at the same spot but BNSF 734 in Warbonnet paint was leading this empty Autorack train and it followed the 6406 right over the top at Palmer Lake so I decided to stay put!

3)I walked further South and didn't quite have enough time to scope out a shot with better sun on the nose of the 9141 and 6348 heading North. I didn't mind because----------

4)-------The helpers in my opinion were better than the head-end power! BNSF SD70MAC's 9812 and 9708 both in Grinstein and with a wagon wheel emblem on the 9708, I thought this was the better catch:}

5)This Northbound manifest with BNSF 7902 and 5363 was really crawling up the grade North of Monument as the typical afternoon clouds begin to build over the Mountains in the background.

6)Following right on the blocks behind the manifest was "plain faced" Grinstein SD70MAC 9621. With not much time to head someplace different and with little other options, I chose this "in your face" view.

7)The rear helpers on the 9621 shot going away were the 6298 and 9323.

8)Next, this Loaded Grain Train heads South behind BNSF 5234 and 6374. The engineer must have waited a little too long to apply the Automatic brake after cutting off the manned helper South of Palmer Lake as he was really moving and by the time the rear end went by, the brakes on the cars were really squealing and the smell of brake shoe smoke was heavy in the air!

9)The rear helpers on the 5234 were BNSF 7625 and 5115 and were not doing much due to the liberal application of the train brakes!

Thanks for viewing:}

Impressive work, John. You have a priceless image with the 9708. There is a post here saying the Greenstein units are going into oil train service. I guess that we will not see many more Greenstein's on coal trains. You had a fantastic day shooting in the neighborhood.

What would make a RR decide, unilaterally, that all "Grinstein units are going into oil service."? Are these diesels somehow better suited for oil trains than coal trains? Less grades to climb? East of use? Just curious.

hard to believe those Grinsteins were brand new as I was finishing my Air Force career. And the SD75m's as well, remember seeing them out of Needles when I was working for Sperry when they were all shiny and new.... Now most of them are LUGO, 'cept for surges like now...

Great series! And nice job climbing those trees in #5 and #8, never occurred to me to do that.
