UP 1995 CNW in El Monte

Was watching the updates on UP 1995 also (like OYW - who got some terrific shots). Trying to drive east however proved difficult and I gave up at El Monte, hoping that the train might reach me while there was still light. Luckily it showed with about 15 minutes to spare before the sun fell behind a building.

The Golden Hour at its finest. Nice shots Chuck.

The Metrolink flyover towering overhead tells me that the train is crossing the San Gabriel River, and is near the site of the old Los Angeles Horse and Mule Auction yard.

Sorry but I have a question about the routing of this train

Why did this train use Cajon and not Metrolink's Soledad Canyon line. Seems the trailer trains from Portland and Seattle always used the Valley Sub through Saugus and Newhall.

I worked at San Fernando Road and 13th in Newhall for 7 years (1994-2000)

Just curious

It's been going down the Palmdale Cutoff for a few months now at least. I am purely guessing here, but it might be the Metrolink charge for running down the Saugus?

I was caught by it at the Mission Road crossing in San Gabriel Saturday evening.
No camera was at the ready but the sunlight was perfect.
A young lady was at the Ramona Ave. crossing taking a picture.
