EMD tests on the Moffat
Author: jc76

August 26th saw EMD and Union Pacific testing SD70ACe's on the Moffat. The train was down to about 6mph as the tests were well underway.

Nice pic, indeed! For those of us out-of-staters who don't recognize all of the Moffat locations, could you tell us where this was taken? About all I know is it is west of Denver. ;-)

Thanks.

The Head End of the train is about 25 cars west of the siding Rocky.

Thanks for the compliments, it was a great morning!

6 powered axles; 1 inverter per axle.

Dumb question - Has EMD changed the SD70ACe's to 1 inverter per axle like GE with these new units? Older SD70ACe's had 1 inverter per truck.

They haven't gone into production yet, but EMD will indeed be offering the SD70ACe with 1 inverter per axle. Whether it will be standard equipment or an available option is yet to be seen. Currently EMDX #1206 and 1208 are on UP while #1209 and 1210 are testing on CSX. EMDX 1207 was originally built in similar configuration but was converted to an SD70ACe-P4.
