Great photos! If I remember correctly UP 7000-7002 were originally supposed to be SP 600-602 or is that a figment of my imagination?

Not any more. Several years ago, all were converted
to 4,400 hp and renumbered. There are no 6,000 hp
units left on UP.

That is interesting. I checked Utah Rails UP roster several days ago and it showed them at 4400 HP in the 3900 series. Today all I could find was the 7500 info. The 2013 Trains Locomotive annual mentioned that CSX has replaced the original prime mover with a 16 cylinder GEVO engine and they are now used on the railroad's hotshots.

Yes, SP was to get 3 6000HP from GE, 600-602 was the rumor. I don't recall the exact timing, but I think there was some debate on if the UP engines where SP at one time, or if SP/UP just took delivery of the first 3 6000HP units. I'm sure on paper vs. actual building of units vs. delivery would be the clarity debate.

SP was merged into UP on September 11, 1996. The UP 7000-7009 were completed by GE in December 1996. The only pre-merger new units ordered by another road were the 50 AC4400CWs delivered to UP in November-December 1995, which had been ordered by C&NW. The order for 3 AC6000CWs by SP was cancelled.

The 3900 series is mostly SD70Ms. Except for 3985, of course.

The re-engined, derated AC6000's went into the high 6800's and low 6900's, skipping over 6936:

Thanks Evan, you are the scholar/expert in residence. Now I remember the 6000 HP GE's were renumbered into the 6900 series not the 3900 series. My mistake.
