Sad Warbonnet Saturday on Front Range
Author: highgreengraphics

Today's BNSF FCLDEN Fort Collins-Denver sat at North Yard in Fort Collins overnight, and left for Denver Mid-day southbound on the ex-C&S with a tonnage pickup in Longmont, CO. It was led by two tattered-looking Warbonnet GE's, but at least the nose emblem was passable.

Photo 2 - Climbing Derby Hill south of Loveland, CO, with the Great Western Sugar silos visible in the distance.

Photo 3 - Whistling down Atwood Street in Longmont, CO.

There's Mooore...

Photo 4 - Passing the stone depot at Longmont, CO, after picking up several cars to forward to Denver from the East Yard. The Longmont Great Western Sugar silos are in the background here. A well-known TO member who takes great pictures and his son were standing next to me.

Photo 5 - Threading through autumn splendor at the outskirts of Boulder, CO.

Photo 6 - A few minutes behind the FCLDEN was the LAUDEN, dodging late-day shadows as it trundles down Atwood St. in Longmont.

Happy worn-out railfanning! === === = === JLH

Nice Fall color shots. Is this train a fairly new one as I don't recall hearing about it in the past?

I think bnsf is short power. Yesterday the Winslow crew used a NS unit to replace a non-working bnsf unit in Winslow.

How do the roads keep track of this foreign power business?

Great to see all of this business coming out of the Ft. Collins area, most of it from the Great Western. UP's Ft. Collins local runs with a lot of business and even is running 6 days a week! Dig shot #5!

Jointed rail and concrete ties? Doesn't seem right!

Jointed rail and concrete ties just on the tight curve that is the transfer track. The concrete ties were previously used at other locations, with a lot of the brackets broken off that hold the Pandrol clips, and many broken and chipped edges. Apparently it is acceptable to utilize concrete ties that are damaged to a certain extent in auxiliary and secondary locations. More or less an easier way to dispose of them while getting some use out of them. === === = === JLH
