The eastside of Stampede Pass today
Author: BrianA

Here is a selection of the photos taken today, Saturday 11-10-13 of two grain empties I photographed at Cabin Creek/Easton, WA on the BNSF's ex-NP Stampede Sub.

The weather was rather dreary but at least it wasn't raining.

1) BNSF 7345 East coming down off Stampede Pass past Cabin Creek onto the two track main of Easton.
2) BNSF 7345 East is 12 miles west of Ellensburg. I posted a photo of this same set of curves not long ago from a different angle and a question was asked how a broader view would look towards the green field in the background. Now we all know.
3) BNSF 4591 was the trains DPU and is seen here on the rear at the far end of the curve where a bit of fall color still survives. It was pretty chilly at 36 at Easton but it warmed up to 41 in a few hours. There was a dusting of snow over I-90 on Snoqualmie Pass this morning but it was mostly gone by the time I went home.

1) A few hours later another eastbound grain empty came off Stampede with all three units up front led by a very dirty 5089, seen here passing the pond at Cabin Creek.
2) And again coming into Easton with the Kittitas County Irrigation Canal on the left. Lake Easton would be in the background behind all those trees on the right and feeds the canal, though apparently not right now. The lake actually looked pretty low when I drove by on I-90.
3) Trailing unit was NSF 5457. I've seen mismatched nose and AC doors before but the missing "B" was a first.

Thanks for looking!

I know where the missing B is it's riding on 5065 the BBNSF. Got photo of it at Union Station in Dallas last month.

That was me, thanks for trying this angle! I like both. Is there a middle ground between the two or are their trees in the way? If I remember the first shot correctly the train is wrapping around an S-curve which we are missing in this shot, right?

Yeah the trees on the inside of the curve makes the broader angle difficult. There is no high ground to get over them on this side of the highway. There is a higher embankment on the other side of the road I could try but may lose the angle by doing so. I'll still have to explore that option.

Yes, sweeping S-curve at this location is about a quarter mile west down the highway. Thanks for the suggestion Paul. I enjoyed trying something different and will try again on a sunny day.
