UP 3105 Arrives SoCal Today
Author: TheNavigator

UP SD40-2 3105 is the unit that UP is providing to the R&LHS Pomona Chapter in exchange for the Chapter's relinquishing of Big Boy 4014 to UP for return to operation. This afternoon the 3105 came west as the 4th unit (not running) on symbol MFWWC-17 through San Timoteo Canyon toward West Colton, CA.

Earlier in the day, UP 1982 (MoP Heritage) was lensed eastbound on symbol IGSDI4-19, also through San Tim.

While out and about I also had a chance to catch up with "RSD5," FCP901, and DRGW. Altogether, this was a good day to be out railfanning.

Thanks for looking,
GK

1. MFWWC-17 is near El Casco.

2. Closer view of the 3105

3. 3105 is about to go under the Pepper Ave. [edit] overpass at West Colton

Looking sharp, the 3105 will fit right in at Pomona - where thousands of similarly painted (and dynamic brake equipped) UP SD40-2's passed by about a mile to the south in the 70's and 80's.

3105 is clean but UP got the better end of the deal unless 3105 is really made of solid gold?

As part of the Agreement , the UP 3105 is Fully 100% Ready to go

Interesting to me in this discussion is that no one has
mentioned the lightning stripe paint scheme and the grey
trucks. I mean, if it's to be an exhibit of the past,
they need to repaint it with the straight hood stripe,
silver trucks, and the number in seven places plus
the slogan "Dependable Transportation" on the cab.

What, you want traction motors AND custom paint? That will cost an additional UP9000!

But, IS it supposed to be a display of the past? I'm with you, though. It's ex-MP....couldn't they have donated an original UP unit?

As expected. Start whining and complaining before it
even hits the museum property.

Are all foamers fickle ingrates, or just most of them?

That's kinda cool. Maybe the RailGiants folks can fire it up occasionally for a "live demo" of a working diesel. Maybe 3105 can join its fellow SD40-2s in hump herder service while waiting to go to Pomona?

How are they going to prevent copper theft...lock it up behind a fence, or keep in indoors...???
