Here's a side profile shot of new UP SD70AH 8829 at Rana on the BNSF taken last Sunday morning. The engineer enjoys the pleasant Southern California weather after departing West Colton with the "North Platte."

Nice looking unit however, I'd like to see UP suspend the use of the US Flag because they seem to not be able to keep them looking nice. I believe a larger version of the UP shield and the "Building America" on the flanks would look nice.

I agree. UPRR, stop putting flags on your locos. If you want to, use a small one on the nose like the BN used to.

I'm waiting for the lawyers at UP to attempt to trade mark the flag just like all of their other hearlds.

I agree take the flags of and but one of their steam engines on the side.

I'd like to see a revised system map and "We're a Great Big Rolling Railroad"
on the side of the hood. Since you don't have cabeese to put slogans on anymore
use the ample room on the side of the hood. Dan. Remembering the 70's.

As long as we are fantasizing about replacement decorations for UP locomotives, how about having MACBEAU create one of his "MAC Industries" images for them?

I can't tell - are their any physical external spotting features on these that make them unique? I ask because offhand it looks about the same as the older series'. === === = === JLH

Why did EMD start beveling / canting the sides of their fuel tanks, vs. the older style smooth, rounded sides?

Maybe I just haven't noticed before...but is the sightglass a newish feature?

It's easier. Bend the metal 4 or 5 times instead of 30. GE has been doing it this way for 50 years. And yes, Ryan, the sight glass showed up again starting with the 2011 deliveries ending with UP 8710. Not really sure why it ever went away.
