I didn't realize Amtrak had any remaining operational F40's

The 406 can only provide HEP for the consist, no tractive effort.

The 406 is not an "operational" locomotive. Its motor was removed, and now serves as a cab and baggage car on push-pull trains. These units are referred to as NPCUs (Non Powered Cabbed Unit),as they don't have their own motor.

Sad that they couldn't put a motor in that unit in the 1ST place!
