I'm not the biggest number junkie out there, but there's something that just feels right about the BNSF renumbering their SD75's back into the 200 series again. After a long career in their adopted 8200 series, they've finally come back home to the 200's, thanks to BNSF's ongoing GEVO deliveries. Here are two views of BNSF SD75M #227 taken in Topeka, KS on 4/3/14.

However, the future doesn't look terribly bright for this unit. From a contact of mine on flickr, I received the following:

"Loco was a lease return that was swapped for the
8257, acct engine was bad. (BNSF) now owns the 8227.
Loco was retired with other lease returns and
record restored. Original lubo date was 9/29/11
now renumbered to BNSF 227."

Regardless of the unit's future, it is a timeless face in the railroading world that is at home in the 200's, and at home in the birthplace of the Santa Fe.

They are definitely on short time because none of that PTC stuff has been installed.

They can always work as B units.

Be glad there is still that much Santa Fe stuff out there nearly 20 years after the merger. The Conrail split was four years later than the formation of BNSF, and CSX and NS have wiped out all traces of Conrail blue on their rosters.
