Fifty plus years of shooting the signals at Mott
Author: photobob

The first photo is the first one I took of the Mott Searchlights in 1961. The second was when the 9800's were new and the last an hour or so ago. The signals are just laying by the side of a dirt road next to the replacements. Somehow the signal shot at Mott just wont be same anymore.

Excellent series, Bob...but that last photo is sad. Thanks for documenting those searchlights over the years.

Think of it this way, there may be no trackside signals in another 25 years. It will all be on a computer screen inside the cab.

I look forward to the next series of shots at Mott. The here and now isn't so bad.

While it is sad ... we're not the same any more either
as I find every time I try to get back up after kneeling down.
That canyon area is a little different each time I see it
and many visits make for much change. Such is life or so
I'm told. I'm waxing philosophical today.

Seeing old signals get replaced is a little like seeing old friends die or something, if you like signals. You just get used to seeing them there as they were...

I'd still prefer the old signals over the new ones any day!
