Western Railroad Discussion > 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli SubDate: 04/14/14 22:16 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 Today was VERY busy for a Monday. Track work near CP Mc Cook had trains flagging signals and calling for orders.
Quite a few trains and some surprises today. 1.YHOD 101 with some nice power works cars from Willow Springs Yard 2. The first of a bunch of trains start to arrive this one an eastbound 3. NS 9819 east follows shortly after the first train. Date: 04/14/14 22:18 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 4. As NS 9819 passes the rain starts.
5. Followed by UP 8113 east headed to the IHB, he did not get the signal and had to wait. 6. UP 8113 east slows to a stop at CP Harbor. Date: 04/14/14 22:21 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 7. A close look at UP 8113
8. DPU on UP 8113's train 9.BNSF 4428 east comes out of Willow Springs yard only to wait for a westbound train. (which was a surprise) Date: 04/14/14 22:24 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 10. An empty oil train behind CP power coming off of the IHB.
11. CP 8781 west gets underway in a hurry. 12. Not the usual traffic I see here. Date: 04/14/14 22:27 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 13. The BNSF 4428 still waiting, why?
14. Because BNSF 4930 had to clear up first! 15. after he left YHOD-102 came out to retrieve some cars from Willow Springs yard Date: 04/14/14 22:33 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 16. YHOD-102 hurries west.
17. BNSF 7089 west arrives 18. As BNSF 7089 roars by you can see something else following in the distance. But before that can go by..... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/14/14 22:33 by chessie5882. Date: 04/14/14 22:37 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 19. BNSF 7051 east has to pass
20. As does YHOD-103 with the cars he pulled from Willow Springs Yard. 21. Well by now CP harbor is all jammed up the 7051 east waits for the IHB dispatcher and foreman to clear the train to go east, the UP eastbound is stuck on the IHB connector, and the local is stuck in the east storage yard as a light engine move headed west appears. Date: 04/14/14 22:40 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 22. And it has seven units.
23. And three appear to be new 24. and in numerical order! (well almost) Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/14/14 22:44 by chessie5882. Date: 04/14/14 22:44 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 Date: 04/14/14 22:48 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 28. the new units really stand out on a day like today.
29. BNSF 8049 West showed up next and a vehicle train off the IHB which had to wait for a while. 30. BNSF 8049 west Date: 04/14/14 22:51 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 31. Next a light eastbound engine move to Corwith just more GE's I thought, until I spotted the second unit.
32. BNSF 7695 the yellow swoosh unit. 33. BNSF 7695 going away shot. And more traffic was still to come. By this time HOD-102 the Argonne job had not left the yard due to heavy traffic. Date: 04/14/14 22:54 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 34. One more eastbound had to pass before the vehicle train could head west.
35. finally BNSF 6927 gets the signal and heads west. 36. I was going to call it a day around 4pm but the I heard BNSF 6068 east a coal train was coming so I went to CP 151 to catch him going east. Date: 04/14/14 22:58 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: chessie5882 37. BNSF 9433
38. The trains seemed to never stop today as the coal train passed we see it meet yet another westbound at CP harbor to the east 39. And last shot of the day the crew of the LCHI-102 waits for permission to back out of GM yard. I wonder what time they left as I had to leave to head home. Not a bad few hours spent here at all! Date: 04/14/14 23:01 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: zchcsse Wow! Looks like BNSF had some trains to run! Thanks for sharing.
-Tom Date: 04/14/14 23:04 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: Ritzville Now that was a BUSY four hours!! Nice pictures, never a dull moment in Hodgkins.
Date: 04/14/14 23:56 Re: 4 hours at Hodgkins,IL on the BNSF Chilli Sub Author: aussiehinz With ongoing congestion & crew availability issues on both the ex BN routes to Galesburg & to La Crosse, the Transcon is playing host to a variety of trains not normally seen there, including the coal and oil empty moves in the thread photos.
