13,200 sleeping horses!
Author: santafe199

While following my camera & tripod around in this serene photo study I couldn’t help letting my mind drift back nearly 5 decades to a time when I was a carefree grade-schooler. I spent a lot of adolescent time watching Santa Fe Geeps & F-units prowling around this modest yard. Now & then I would even get an exciting cab ride from a friendly engineer. I don’t believe there were quite so many Santa Fe horses back in those days…

BNSF’s modern power stables a lot more giddy-up, though. If I counted the hooves correctly over 13,000 horses are sleeping through this night in 2013. Sleep well, my equestrian friends! Tomorrow you will earn your keep…

1. BNSF 6769 sits looking to the west, with only its number boards providing any sign of life.

2. BNSF 6695 on the east end of the consist is under the protective glow of the Bert & Wetta elevator.

3. More night light protection shines forth from the east end of the yard.
(3 night time exposures taken January 27, 2013 in Abilene, KS)

Thanks for looking!

Lance,
Thank you for the great display of "after the work" photographs. They bring a lot of memories of nights long gone.
