Western Railroad Discussion > Early morning Ballast on the UPDate: 07/13/14 08:58 Early morning Ballast on the UP Author: ns2557 On my continuing journeys across the states. This morning found me passing thru Central City Ne on the UP ex CNW eastbound. In some nice light UP 4640 and 4745 are tied down in one of the House Tracks here with a loaded Ballast Train. There were 2 of these trains that I came upon this morning, the 2nd one was at Thummel (sp?). Sure do like the early sun and am's are my favorite time of day to travel. TFL. Ben

Last week I drove from North Platte Nebraska to Missouri Valley Iowa, and saw six loaded stonetrains parked at various places along the mainline. I noticed there was grading for a second track to be put in east of Fremont Nebraska to west of Blair, and I believe that's where all the stone is/was going.

House Track is what came to mind for lack of a better term. Ben Date: 07/13/14 19:05 Re: Early morning Ballast on the UP Author: oklachaser Great shot.
Ronda Thomas Date: 07/13/14 20:54 Re: Early morning Ballast on the UP Author: SCKP187 One of my favorite shots. Just can't beat the Kenefick green MofW color. I was through there in May and there was a ballast train just like this one tied down in the same spot. Thanks for showing.

start until Fremont. Does anyone know how far along the second track project from Fremont to Missouri Valley is? I don't recall any recent updates. Are they going to build a second single track bridge over the Missouri, or erect a completely new double track span? Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA |
