UP 951 South Frontier Days deadhead today
Author: highgreengraphics

Today's positioning move to get the Cheyenne Frontier Days train to Denver for Saturday morning's departure. This year it featured two of the three E Units, 951 and 963B, and DDA40X 6936.

Photo 1 - Rounding the curve into Speer, WY, where the train will diverge left off Track 4 and go south down the Denver Main. In the distance directly behind the last car can be seen a new yard being built for UP's portion of the Swan Ranch Industrial Park.

Photo 2 - Arriving at Carr, CO amid new signals and ties ready to be installed.

Photo 3 - Distant view approaching the Nunn, CO bridge. Way in the distance can be seen the intermediate signal and station sign for the setout track at Dover, CO.

Coupla mooore...

Photo 4 - Closer view approaching the Nunn bridge.

Photo 5 - Later, a westbound stacker going up Track 3 departs Cheyenne under the C&S Bridge with a trailing KCS Southern Belle, as if I haven't seen enough of THOSE lately, but still purty...

Happy Frontier Days railfanning! === === = === JLH

Agreed - that locomotive must be near height limits.

Hah hah, sometimes I get to laugh at myself. I will change it to SOUTH. Duuuuh - I have only lived in this area since 1972. Can you tell I was distracted when I was posting? Thanks for the compliments on the photos! === === = === JLH

Those are very nice photos, JLH! I especially like
the first one. And, yes, the DDA40X does tower
over the Es. I love that Centennial and am very
glad the UP is using her to help power the CFD train.
Those engines are magnificent and very impressive
beasts!

Beautiful shots, if only 6936 didnt have the ugly yellow stripe now. Other than that I think it looks great.

Who stole the nose door on 951? Just doesn't look right....

Great shots, as always. UP 6936 looks a bit odd sandwiched between the E-Units and the train. Kinda breaks up the continuity of the train. Still, not complaining about a chance to see the E's and a DDA40X together.

Those that can make it out, get good shots on Saturday. I'll be moving so I won't be able to get track side.

Rich,
The DD40 is the same height as the domes and not as high as the double stacks.

Nice shots, Jim! Where can one find the schedule for Saturday's trip north and back to Denver in the afternoon?

I've always wondered... Does the green on top of the nose deflect sun glare, or is it just simply for looks?
