Western Railroad Discussion > A smoky Warm Day with Work Window.Date: 07/18/14 17:53 A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: Ritzville It was a smoky hot day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub at 89 degrees. Lots of smoke in the air due to a number of big fires in the outer area. Went to Cheney, WA to do errands since no trains were running. On the way back from Cheney was caught up in a traffic back-up for over an hour on I-90 due to a accident on bridge over the BNSF near Keystone. Did see a couple of interesting trains along Sprague Lake, but no time for pictures. Here are a few trains from last evening and today so far.
1. EB Old Santa Fe boxcar with Statue of Liberty holding up a fist. Lots of wasted paint on that car. 2. WB 641pm grain train with BNSF 4830-968 on the point with DPU. 3. WB 658pm mixed train with BNSF 4558, CP 8837 and BNSF 4599 on the pull. Date: 07/18/14 17:55 Re: A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: Ritzville Date: 07/18/14 17:58 Re: A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: Ritzville 6. EB 759pm #28 Empire Builder with 144 on the point.
7. Another shot of #28 rolling thru Ritzville, WA. Date: 07/18/14 18:02 Re: A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: Ritzville 8. EB 437pm stack train with BNSF 5281-7396 on the pull.
9. Another shot of same train. 10. EB 448pm ballast work train with 6576-7841 on the point. That's it for now. Mostly Orange today, that may change later this evening. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/18/14 19:29 by Ritzville. Date: 07/18/14 20:44 Re: A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: SCKP187 Nice action. Neat to see all the track machines lined up like that.
Brian Stevens Date: 07/18/14 21:31 Re: A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: milepost1208 Nice photos. I have looked at your posts many times and have seen a lot of great pictures and just never commented until now. What camera do you use, if I may ask? It's hard to see the smoke you stated was in the air. It must be a LOT less than what I'm getting up here in Whitefish, Montana. It was so smoky today that I couldn't even see the mountains that mirror Glacier National Park and the sunset was a brilliant hazy bright red/orange. Hoping the smoke clears out some real soon so I can get trackside and take some photos to share, too. ~Mary in smoky Whitefish,MT~

This morning when I got up it looked so dark at 745am because of the smoke. Yesterday it looked like LA on a smoggy day. By 1100am the smoke lifted some, but was bad in Cheney, WA today. The air flow is supposed to blow it more north towards Canada. I hope they put the seven big fires out soon. I just use a Sony cyber-shot 16.1 mega pixels, nothing fancy. Will look for your photos, have a great weekend. Date: 07/19/14 01:17 Re: A smoky Warm Day with Work Window. Author: funnelfan Yep, it was a smokey one again today.

As my family and I were returning from Montana, we ran into the end of the traffic jam, just west of the Sprague rest area, about 5-seconds after passing the exit...grr. After waiting about 30-minutes, we made it far enough that I made a U-turn and headed back to Sprague and took the back road into Ritzville. I thought anout stopping and getting a pic of your porch, but we were tired and hungry and needed to get home. |
