I do believe the Lake Superior & Ishpeming still uses U30C locos. Also TTI (Trans Kentucky) may still have U36B's. They had U28B locomotives a few years ago. Pickens RR in the southeast still may have U18B's. Corrections/updates welcome.

Don't forget OERM's SP #3100--a U-25BE. It was used this weekend!

A few years ago, I posted a list of U23B's I had found in recent "action" photos and presumed to be active:

With G&W retiring Georgia Central's large fleet, a big chunk of that list is kaput. Pickens' U18B's are another bright spot (until G&W buys them so it can scrap more GE's), but it's getting hard to find higher horsepower U-boats and 6-axle units in service. The U36B is only extant on TTI and those are said to be out of service. The LS&I still had a few active U30C's as of last year. Otherwise, the U23C, U25B, U25C, U28C, U30B, and U34CH can only be found in museums or on display, the U33B and U33C are extinct, as is the U36C unless you count a handful of rebuilt ex-ATSF SF30C's. Looks like TTI still has one late U28B on the property, stored out of service with the U36B's.

There are less than 20 preserved U-boats, and the number of preserved Dash-7's doesn't even break double digits.
