Western Railroad Discussion > Around East LA This Afternoon

I decided to take a drive over to Commerce completely on a whim and it ended up being well worth my while. Here are a few of the better shots of the day, with the usual rundown afterwards. Was a little more interesting than I expected variety-wise!

1.) The Y LAC1011 27A yard job works the west end of Hobart with a warbonnet GP60M leading.
2.) A Dallas bound intermodal heads east through the Montebello Metrolink station.
3.) Right behind was another Dallas bound train, this one with a rare C41-8W trailing.

4.) What I believe was S LPCLHW1 24A heads through Commerce
5.) Y LACR203 27A works CITCOM behind a BN Whiteface 40-2.
6.) Coming back from the LAJ after dropping baretables, showing off a classic set of power.

7-9.) Three westbounds on the UP arrive in LA. Should be (in order) OISLS 25, AMLDOR 27, & MWCLB 27, the latter two having SD60Ms for power.

Nice views! Those BNSF shots around Hobart and Commerce yards, my stomping grounds. Nobody visible in the cabs of either of those BNSF units, sure signs of remote jobs (101, & 203 Jobs respectively).

The C40-8Ws/C41-8Ws should not be as rare now, being that almost the entire fleet of them is in service at this time, but they are certainly out numbered by the newer C44AC's and C45AC's.

Thanks! Good point, that's only the second I've seen since they came back. I guess I should say that somewhat rare for an intermodal!

Very nice series of shots. Any problems at the Montebello Metrolink station? Last time I was there the security guard wasn't too happy with my presence.

Wonderful picture of that GP60M now relegated to local service. I remember when the Santa Fe ordered them with comfort cabs as their primary workhorse across country for container trains. How times change.

No, I only saw one person there & no sign of a security guard. Maybe helped it was a Sunday?

Whoops. Got going to fast with the I trains on this one. Make it the AMLLBR 28.
