Western Railroad Discussion > CNW 8646 chase this afternoon

This afternoon TO member oilcan and myself took off work early and headed out to the Mojave in search of CNW 8646 leading westbound train KG1LAC. We were able to chase the train from Manix on the Cima Sub to Hodge on the Cajon Sub where we broke off the chase. The train was nearing Yermo around 3pm where it held just north of town for some congestion around to clear. A quick crew change but heavy traffic on the BNSF delayed the train at Daggett. Turned out to be a great afternoon and very nice of UP to send this our way!

As of now, showing to leave LA as the second engine on the ZCIBP-31, so probably good thing that you slaughtered it today:)

Great shots! I chased this train earlier and saw some other railfans along the way.

Terrific looking shots, Matt. Well worth braving the desert heat for I must say :)

Nice shooting, Matt. The 8646 was in familiar territory today as well as back on July 25, 1998. Glad the nose door was closed today.

Thanks for posting, Matt. I was looking carefully at the 8646 and was amazed at the great condition it's in. Then I looked online at older photos and concluded that some minor restoration work and touchups have been performed over the years. Still, it looks pretty damn good for being more than 20 years old.
