Upper Midwest Meanderings
Author: rrartist

The journey begins on Monday 9/28 with a day trip along the CP Corn Lines from Marquette Iowa westward to Charles City then a zigzag north towards Austin MN. I was skunked until north of St. Ansgar Iowa when I caught a north bound CN local with the IC 1021 leading a CN SD60. Not to shabby for my only train today! Tuesday morning brought copious amounts of sun along with some interesting trains such as the NS 1034 with CP 610 and the NS 8094 with train CP 632 at Bangor WI.

After the two in Bangor (WI) I headed back to La Crosse and the BNSF 1409, BNSF H-NTWLAW. I'm sure happy to see these SD60Ms out and about again! Now it was time to head over to the Land of 10000 Lakes and catch a few trains. CP 287 had a nice BNSF "Wagon wheel" SD70Mac BNSF 9423 leading a freshly shopped CP 9654. I followed 287 north to Minneiska (MN) where I waited for my ticket home in the form of CP H20 with it's seven EMDs - SWEET!!!

Once CP H20 arrived in Minnesota City it's first order of business was to set out the trailing three ICE/DME units. CP H20 hustles by CP Road Switch G77 in downtown Winona and in the last image, swings into Dakota MN.

CP train H19, CP 4613 headed for Winona (MN) once H20 cleared and this ended my Tuesday. Wednesday brought some valley fog as the UP 3907 moved a loaded sand train from Winona to Adams (WI) through West Salem (WI). A short time later, the sun was shining brightly for the CSXT 7541 with CP 640's train.

Now it was time to motor towards Genoa WI where I found the BNSF 7659 leading a set of empty oil cans past the Lock and Dam. NS 1068,the Erie heritage was leading the next oil empty past the Genoa Locks, this is sure a fine looking locomotive!

Here's another look at the NS 1068 as the train waited north of Genoa WI for traffic ahead. CP train H20 once again had a interesting consist, this time the SOO 6024 was leading. I found the train switching in Wabasha MN and waited south of CP Midland for an overhead view and lastly the SOO 6024 and company swing through the sweeping curve south of Minneiska MN. Thanks for riding along!

Really nice collection. #1 of local is great and all the CP red looks great. Can't get a better shot of the Erie Heritage unit than what you've got--great locations. Thanks for showing all of this.
