A couple from Black Butte this evening
Author: photobob

Took a ride up to Black Butte with Ryan Wilkerson and his son Cade to do a little foaming this evening. The first shot is a northbound coming up the siding with an empty grain train. A couple of minutes later the southbound rolled through Black Butte. It was a beautiful evening up there however the smoke from fires in Oregon was drifting our way.

They are as precious as your children.

It's always interesting when you see where a stack up ends up. Those two CP units were here in the Bakersfield, California Yard for about a week and left yesterday evening. Of course Black Butte offers a way better back drop than Bako.

Is the water tank still up there or is it gone now?

Yes, it's still standing. The water column was crashed into years ago...I think about a decade ago.

You have too good a life, Ryan. You know PhotoBob, you actually have time to railfan, you live near some of the most incredible railroad sights on Earth, you have a delightful foamer son, and don't even get me started on that Yerba Buena PV ride. I guess that ALMOST all makes up for your hellish day-to-day life in 110-degree Redding... ;-)

You are right, it's a great life...some would say better than I deserve. I'm enjoying every minute if it.
And Truxtrax is right, I'm temporarily in Dunsmuir, conveniently located 2 miles from PhotoBob.
It still hits 100 but we have lots of cold streams and the river to combat the heat.

For those wanting to experience Dunsmuir, there are rentals. Even one listed in the TO classifieds: http://www.trainorders.com/classifieds/view.php?4009

He's offering the same house that I rented three years ago. Dave's house closest to PhotoBob.

Oh, North Switch of the yard. I'd have called that 'the cross-overs'.

I thought it meant up by the River Ave bridge North switch. I'll have to write to the editor for clarification.

The ones I was thinking of are always full with Fly-fisher-people.

Right, I read it that way too but I knew where the house was located and went back to re-read it.
I really like that location...my boys and wife had such a great two weeks there that we ended up getting a place of our own.
