Feather River Express IV railfan tour along the Feather River Route as part of the Portola Railroad Days

Saturday, August 9th - day trip from Portola to the Keddie Wye and back

1) A Western Pacific GP7 pulling the train from the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at Portola, CA, out to a siding for Amtrak to pick up.

2) Approaching the grade crossing near the Mohawk Ranger Station.

13) Crossing West Branch Feather River near Lake Oroville. The rails come out of Tunnel 5 and immediately on to the lower deck of the bridge, with the upper deck carrying Highway 70.

One wishes you guys would have spent as many pixels on the
GN dome as you did on the "Silver Solarium."

The last picture is an interesting study of the configuration of different styles of dome cars. I spent a lot of time looking at pictures of CZ dome lounge observation cars before I realized the rear windows of the dome are smaller because the roof over the lower-level lounge in the back is higher. It's pretty obvious in this picture. Also, I didn't realize how much shorter the dome in the ATSF "Pleasure Dome" was in comparison to Budd domes.
