Is the UP Tidwater Local still operating out of Stockton to Escalon and Modesto? If so what day and time does it run. Thank You

It only goes as far as Escalon now, but yes, it still runs.

Last I heard it was a Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday job. I've had good luck catching it leaving Stockton on Sunday mornings around 8am.

The "other" Tidewater local is fun too, that runs out of Modesto (Rogers Yard south of downtown) Sunday through Friday. The first time I chased them (on a Sunday) I guess I got lucky as they did both the Turlock street trackage and the Chemurgic branch on the same trip. IIRC there is only one customer left in Turlock at the end of the street trackage (Americold).

Why "Tidewater"? The Central Valley is one of the least tidewater-y places I know. What sort of tidewater is there outside of Modesto?

Tor in Eugene

There's a major port in Stockton.

The San Joaquin River used to be navigable for quite a ways, but by the late 1800s had silted up and most cargo boats went no farther than Stockton and the large, passable portions of river, ie: those affected by tides, thus "tidewater", pretty much ended there.

The TS was meant to take cargo and people and move them between the Port of Stockton and points south.

Can you tell me how they are they serving Americold? Last I knew the spur into that facility was severed.

Too bad they can't get a couple more customers back in the cluster in Turlock.

See this map for Americold- http://goo.gl/maps/XQP41 It wasn't that long ago that I saw a car at American Wood Industries, across the tracks from Sun Valley Nut.
