Western Railroad Discussion > Around Savanna IL 8/31

Went over to the Mississippi yesterday to Savanna and Clinton with my friend Kevin Angel. Just a few highlights from the day.

1. BNSF UTNDNSD1 rolls past what used to be the Milwaukee Roundhouse in Savanna.

2. After another BNSF WB, we heard B67 at Clinton. So we ran down there and got him. SOO 2066 has seen better days.

3. B67 shoving north towards Deer Creek Siding.

4. After B67 shoved into Deer Creek, we got this SB CP 332 train with a CEFX leader and a NS standrad cab GE second.

5. And the train of the day. 3 Blue and Golds. However the first two are lettered for RCPE. The last is a DME. Train is B38 from Mason City to Nahant.

6. Same train further south in downtown Clinton.

7. To the boat ramp crossing north of Savanna at MP 149. First is the MGALSUP.

8. Next is the UTNDCXP, in which we would get blocked because 25 cars before the rear cleared the best BNSF train went by with a NS standrad cab leading a tank train! OUCH!

9. In town pink bonnett 888 leads a UEAPSUP empty ore train

10. Well we did get a NS led train, UCXPTND.

11. HNTWGAL with a CSX third out in the consist.

12. Final train of the day, was the CP 470, with a pair of CSX motors. This is MP 3, known as Whites Crossing north of Samoa on the Marquette Sub.

After pizza with our friend CNW8531 we headed back to Marion. Always a good time along the river no matter what.

Nice catches! Last time i saw 6400, was as a IC&E unit, in Albany, New York

Wow, that is some nice variety (and shots)!
I'm planning on heading that way in early October with a couple of other TO members.
Sure hope that we see stuff like this:)

For those that might be interested I will be coming out with a DVD in a few days that shows all of the BNSF (not DM&E) trains in and around Savanna for over 24 hours in October of 2013. Savanna is and always has been a neat place. I grew up 10 miles from there.

Does anybody know what that CP 332 train is/does? I saw that power tied down in the New Yard south of Muscatine on my way into work yesterday evening and wondered why it was there.
