A Warm and Windy Day In The Backyard On The BNSF

Today was warm and windy with a bit of humidity in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub at 82 degrees. There was an afternoon work window for the varies work areas. Here are some of the trains that passed thru the backyard last evening and today.

1. EB 501pm oil train with warbonnet 773 and BNSF 4079 on the point with DPU.
2. EB 513pm grain train with BNSF 5087-4010 and CP 8844 on the pull with DPU.
3. EB 623pm manifest train with BNSF 1054-1081-4604 on the point.

4. EB 645pm manifest train with BNSF 5152-1104 and warbonnet 767 on the point.
5. Another shot of warbonnet 767.
6. EB 805am grain train with BNSF 7593 and NS 9390 on the pull with DPU.

7. WB 824am coal train with BNSF 8837 and green and cream 9777-9521-9419 on the point with DPU.
8. Another shot of green and cream 9419.
9. DPU BNSF 9066 on same train.

10. MOW equipment rolling down to CP Tokio at 837am.
11. WB 910am grain train with NS 8109, warbonnet 630 and BNSF 905 on the point.
12. Another shot of warbonnet 630 with most of it's SANTA FE missing.

13. EB 513pm manifest train with BNSF 5286-6783 and warbonnet 909 on the point.
14. Rough looking warbonnet 909.
15. A John Deere scoop rolling in same train.

18. WB 1116am GATX coke train with BNSF 980-4091-9888 on the point with DPU.
19. The gusty wind blowing black dust from tops of cars. This is the first time I've ever seen dust blow from those cars. Must of been the swirling gusty winds.
20. DPU BNSF 9904 on same train.

21. DPU BNSF 9904 disappearing in a black fog.
22. WB 1126am manifest train with BNSF 5157-4328 on the point with a friendly wave from the hogger.
23. EB 119pm ballast train with BNSF 5703 on the pull with DPU to toe up on north end of Ritzville yard.

Coke blowing...notice how high its piled on the cars that are blowing. Front and rear cars dont have the coke piled so high you can see it...which is the way I recall is the usual. Thanks for the daily photos..

24. DPU BNSF 8945 on ballast train.
25. EB 335pm manifest train with BNSF 4113-4381 and NS 1020 on the pull.

Those GATX hoppers are full of Petroleum Coke from refineries in Billings, MT. That coke is very fine and blows around quite easily. Those are the trains that the environmentalists post photos of claiming them to be coal trains.

After seeing that dust flying today Ted, I was thinking the same thing about the environmentalists, who don't know coke from coal.

Thanks Dave for clearing that up, I was just guessing on what it was. That's the second one of those tree cutters I've seen in a week.
