Western Railroad Discussion > S CHIOIG1 QuestionDate: 09/19/14 10:36 S CHIOIG1 Question Author: strench707 Could anyone shed any light on why the S CHIOIG1 trains always run with a 'B' suffix after the date? (e.g. S CHIOIG1 19B)
I understand that Stack trains end with a V (e.g. S ALTOIG1 19V) when they carry Vehicle traffic but I can't figure out what B would indicate. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! B is for bare table. May or may not have boxes on the platforms. I wonder if this is the originating train that goes to Oakland double stacked and then the top layer is removed on to a second train. Both of which then go up BNSF via the Oregon Trunk to Seattle/Tacoma... Date: 09/19/14 14:56 Re: S CHIOIG1 Question Author: strench707 That would be a B up front. I'm talking about after the date.

Its fine if no one knows but I figured someone might! Davis Date: 09/19/14 18:25 Re: S CHIOIG1 Question Author: zchcsse ActionMike Wrote:

Still just a guess, however. Date: 09/19/14 19:03 Re: S CHIOIG1 Question Author: strench707 Makes sense. Stack trains don't usually get that treatment at Barstow?
Davis Posted from iPhone Date: 09/19/14 21:39 Re: S CHIOIG1 Question Author: David.Curlee I don't know if it applies to this particular train, but I believe they used to differentiate between routings using A or B suffixes. Some of the last intermodal trains to use Raton Pass were "B" trains while their equivalent on the transcon were "A" trains.

Kaiser Hauler has a T suffix ... L-CAL0111 xxT or L-CAL0121 xxT Cadiz Turn has an F suffix ... L-CAL1161 xxF Boron Turn has an I suffix ... L-CAL0611 xxI (most but not all locals and roadswitchers also have the I suffix) (note: xx is the date) I think the F denotes cars to/from a foreign railroad because the M-BARWCL and M-WCLBAR going to interchange at West Colton also use the F suffix. I've asked a number of BNSF people about the other letters and nobody seems to know. |
