Hi there,
While making the rounds around Topeka, KS this afternoon, I noticed something amiss about the BNSF 8882 outside of the shops. It looked to have some sort of attachment on its roofline, though I couldn't quite make it out at the time. Sure enough, I got home to take a look at the pictures, and noticed some sort of structure attached to the roof just above the exhaust. Surely this is for some sort of emissions testing. It'll be interesting to see what this one comes out like and what sort of service it gets placed into for testing.

I wonder if that is what's called a "Ringoldman" (?) meter for checking exhaust color? I've seen that same apparatus on engines load testing south of the shop buildings in the past.
