Nice. It appears that BNSF stole all their Southern Belles! Perhaps this is the reason I don't see much KCS coverage here.

I'm fairly certain the only belle painted locomotives in the US at the time was one ex-EMD Demo SD70ACe, a KCSM GEVO, and #34, the displayed FP9 at Kansas City Union Station.

I moved to a town on the KCS that summer and they were quite the novelty then, few and far between.

I still remember my first Retro Belle. KCSM 4662 made the ATDA-DAAT cycle several times back and forth, and was late enough arriving into Dallas one weekend morning to allow for some morning shots. A week or two later, it showed up on a morning eastbound running from Alliance to Wylie, which made for a fantastic chase from Lewisville all the way east to Wylie into the morning sun.

I guess with Southern Belles it's true what they say, "you never forget your first time."

Always liked the white units--love the Southern Belle units. The grey units (while these are great shots of them), I simply could have done without.
