OT: Fire near Yosemite: Dog Rock Fire" :tanker crashed
Author: Margaret_SP_fan

Another fire -- this one near Yosemite National Park,
3 to 5 miles from the entrance to the famed park.
This fire has burned about 130 acres, and the CHP
has closed CA 140 at the park entrance.

One of Cal Fire's tankers, a Grumman S2 Tracker tanker,
has crashed,. No word yet on survivors or cause of the
crash. Thoughts and prayers to the pilot and this family.
EDIT: From YubaNet, it looks as though there was only one
person in the planem the pilot. Still no word on his fate.

This fire began at 2:45 pm, between the park boundary
and Arch Rock Entrance Station to the park. The small
community of Foresta has been evacuated -- which is
about 60 homes, most of them vacation homes..

EDIT: More very interesting and detailed info here:

EDIT: Mandatory RR content:
This fire is approximately 15-20 miles north of the
Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine RR.

One can only hope for the best outcome, and, of course, give full support to those heroic firefighters. AA

Possibly T-81. Not sure where it is based. California has an amazing fleet of these S-2's. This is the first accident I can remember involving them. Prayers to the crews and families.

Sad.

A reminder that fire fighting is exceptionally dangerous work.
