Mystery MP15: GMTX 306
Author: bnsfsd70

On 10/5/14, I shot the GMTX 306 at KC's Mid-America Car and I was wondering if any of you could tell me of its previous owner. In addition, does anyone have any idea what all of the extra cables on the pilot are for?

Thanks!

Shows to be former Port of Montreal which explains the french on the danger signs. Was working at Metro East Industries in St. Louis back in the spring.

Its an MP15AC, and the extra connections are to run a slug.

I noticed the French as well which pointed towards Quebec for sure. Thanks!

Sure enough. I was just googling "Port Of Montreal MP15" and found shots of the units with slugs attached.

Never have seen an angle cock like that. What a weird spot.

That's how the French-Canadiens do.

Once it is mated to the slug there is no safe way to climb in to cut in the air with all the cables and air hoses hanging down on each side of the drawbar.. Besides, once it is mated to the slug you only need to open the angle cock once and its location is accessible and out of the way.

Im surprised that the slug traction connections are such small cable and are terminated in those connectors; most that I have dealt with are the same size as the traction motor leads and plug into heavy rubber receptacles with brass inserts bolted to the end plate.

Jeff,
I believe this is one of four former Port of Montreal MP15AC's ( GMD London built ) that GMTX got. At some point all were on Metro East Industries property in the past year. If I had more time ( leaving for Montana in the morning ) I could share photos of two of these freshly shopped at MEI and paired up with former KCS slugs in GMTX black and blue scheme.

Hmm... interesting. It's odd that they seemingly got shipped from MEI to MAC. You'd think any work that could get done at one shop could get done at the other.
