I could only read this on my smart phone, it was blocked out on my home computer browser for some reason. I am not sure what this will mean for the Moffat Road if the article is accurate. I imagine it has been a long time since a seam this thick has been discovered.... It can only mean good news for the Craig Branch if the info is accurate. Edited 1 time(s). DRGW Author: Lackawanna484 Article mentions more than seven million tons of coal, no details on the grade / quality.
>>Twentymile is the sole supplier of coal to Hayden Station, supplying 1.8 million tons per year to fuel the coal-fired power plant owned by Xcel Energy, which supplies power to Yampa Valley residents via Yampa Valley Electric Association. Twentymile also has a contract with Public Service of Colorado in Denver through 2017, at which point PSCO will convert to natural gas, according to Sollars. Other customers include Monsanto, industrial utilities in Texas, and customers in the southeastern U.S., Hawaii and Europe.<< Date: 10/20/14 13:18 Re: 25 foot coal seam found near Craig? DRGW Author: SilvertonRR100 Colo-Wyo at Axial was going down 300-400 feet to reach 7 layers of coal, the thickiest IIRC was about 10-12 feet! The thinest was less than a foot thick. 25 feet starts to rival the PRB! Well, at least a thorn in its side.
Hopefully this will increase traffic on the Craig Branch! Rob Date: 10/20/14 18:18 Re: 25 foot coal seam found near Craig? DRGW Author: srlawton Heat rate BTU/ton?

DRGW Author: Lackawanna484 The UP website has a wealth of info on the coal quality of this mine, and of other shippers. I suspect the info was supplied by the mine owner.
From the UP website: >>Coal Specifications Steam Bituminous: 11,350 Btu/lb., 0.50% Sulphur Stoker Bituminous: 11,400 Btu/lb, 0.41% Sulphur << Lots of technical details https://www.uprr.com/customers/energy/coal/colorado/20mile.shtml Date: 10/21/14 06:14 Re: 25 foot coal seam found near Craig?
