Kansas City Trip Report
Author: BNSF-6432

Here's a wrap up of the weekend trip over to Kansas City, MO and Lawrence. KS from Saturday Oct. 18th the family took. Starting around 9am and ending at 7pm, we finished the day with 30 trains only having a 2 hour break being the longest which was partly because we were changing locations. Most action was BNSF stack trains at Santa Fe jct but I'll share some of the more somewhat interesting stuff...

1) Upon our arrival in Lawrence around sunset our first moving train came Friday evening in Midland, KS as a stack train travels past the back yard of a Kansas farmer

2) The first catch on Saturday was no other than a eastbound UP coal train, however it did consist of a repainted AC6000 on the point

3) While things slowed down at Santa Fe jct, I got the opportunity to shoot some of the cutting in progress from the past derailment. We were still fine to sit there as long as we stayed out of the way, no one bothered us

4) KCT job comes by after crossing the river out of the UP. I believe this is the first time catching the switch engine out on transfer duty

5) NS transfer led by a GP60 crosses the BNSF

6) WAMX 1507 comes back about an hour later splitting the searchlights

7) An auto train pulls onto the UP with a nice consist bound for Armourdale Yard to drop off the train and run the power back

8) Freight coming out of Armourdale meets the autos by the bridge

9) Now we head over to Birmingham where the first train is a NS freight leaving Kansas City

Nice views Patrick--nice to see the KCT units in the older paint scheme.

The KCT train was the 105 job, operating out of its own Mill Street Yard. It was headed to spot loads/pull empties at the KCT's 12th Street Yard, which is used for plastic pellet transloading.

The NS "transfer" was 33J from Decatur, IL.
