Western Railroad Discussion > Rockford Illinois area variety

Rockford has one mainline railroad and three remnant lines.
1) CP South Beloit Local is heading toward Davis Jct. south of Rockford Airport(Milwaukee Road).
2) CN train 337 is west of Rockford from Chicago to Waterloo(Illinois Central).
3) CN Freeport local has picked up cars at remaining Rockford customers and is returning west to Freeport

A second 338 west went through with CSX power, another bridge shot.

4 Below) Then later what we heard was a grain empty? but they picked up additional cars headed west.

The Illinois Railway( old Railnet)also operates at night from Flagg Center to Rockford(CB & Q).

And... I think we managed to miss the Union Pacific coming to town from Belvedere (C & NW).

Bob, does UP still come into Rockford? The last few times I passed under their track on I-90, there were auto racks stored on the main . Dave

We did not actually see them(UP) but heard horn. Best I know they do come to Rockford as needed, once a week?
One customer on the K-D line, Rock Valley Chem. and maybe Lebovitz(spelling?) Steel west of downtown.
They used to get some interchange from Rail Net but not sure that is done anymore with schedule.

I think the Auto Racks are stuck there as storage for Auto Plant but not permanent/
