Just like Grant, whose photos can be seen here - http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3584045 - I was out and about in Kansas City, searching for UP 1983 and NS 8100 yesterday. I was able to catch both of the units I was looking for, in some locations I haven't shot from before. Below are the results.

Enjoy!

1. After getting a fresh crew at Troost, UP train QNLNP21 prepares to roll under the Main Street pedestrian bridge just East of Broadway
2. The train's short wait at a red signal allowed for a quick relocation, and a second shot of the 1983 crossing onto the Omaha Main at CP K284
3. Something of interest to me was the pair of Sandersville RR hoppers at the head end of the train. Definitely not something you see every day in KC.

4. My last shots of the 1983 were taken from the pedestrian bridge over the Kaw River, just off Minnesota Avenue as the train crosses from Missouri into Kansas
5. About 2 hours after leaving the 1983, NS 8100 - the NKP heritage unit - rolls South through Airline Junction, as the DPU of train UEEBAD20, bound for San Antonio, TX

Thanks for looking,

VERY tasty, Dalton.
The muted colors of an overcast day, plus that "railroad-ey, industrial-quality" feel
(with respect to backgrounds, framing, composition, etc.), make for a fine series.
Really, really good stuff, bub.

Of all the UP heritage/special paint schemes, that's my favorite. (Presidential 4141 is a close second)

Thanks for posting!!!

I should have clarified. The ethanol train is also a Union Pacific train, it is somewhere in Oklahoma currently.

Very nice series Dalton. The NS 8100 was at Colbert OK near the Red River about 1100a this morning in good sunlight and I got a few earlier shots in heavy clouds.

Very well done! You & Grant (& Jeff up in Atchison) did a good job in covering this train!
