Western Railroad Discussion > California Northern - Photo Location HelpDate: 12/21/14 10:47 California Northern - Photo Location Help Author: jmw I took the attached image on the California Northern somewhere between Tracy and Los Banos, California in 2009. I labeled the file "Liberty." Is Liberty a station, town, or street?
I'm updating my files and would like an exact location. Thank you, JMW http://waidephoto.smugmug.com/Trains Date: 12/21/14 11:01 Re: California Northern - Photo Location Help Author: J.Ferris jmw Wrote:

Thank you! JMW Date: 12/21/14 13:41 Re: California Northern - Photo Location Help Author: nicknack Did the GP-15's have tunnel motor style radiators for a particular reason? Great shots of a shortline hauler.

ease of packaging the radiator sections, Jack would know. Out Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/22/14 15:55 by callum_out. Date: 12/21/14 18:55 Re: California Northern - Photo Location Help Author: NSDash9 nicknack Wrote:

When EMD developed its 1500 horsepower alternator equipped MP15AC switcher, they also chose to eliminate the belt driven cooling fan that was used on the MP15/MP15DC and previous switcher models. To do so they chose to utilize a smaller version of the alternative cooling system as utilized on their SD40T-2 and SD45T-2 "tunnel motor" models. This system used an AC powered cooling fan to draw cooling air in through the intake grilles at the bottom of the long hood on both sides. The air was then pushed through the radiators for cooling and the hot air was blown out through the grilles on top of the long hood. With the development of the 1500 horsepower GP15-1, EMD chose to utilize the same cooling system as on the MP15AC since it was already sized for 1500 horsepower applications. Much appreciated ! Chris Date: 12/22/14 09:40 Re: California Northern - Photo Location Help Author: pismopete Excellent as always! And others take note of where Chris Toth used and didn't use the dash "-" in his EMD models; they are used correctly unlike other posters in the list, i.e there is no dash "-" after GP, MP, E, F, SW, etc!
