New Year's with the Wabash
Author: trainboy03

The Wabash heritage made a third trip onto the Iowa Interstate. After delivering the loaded coal train to Cedar Rapids, IA on the 29th, it was kept close at the shop in South Amana. The much-anticipated return on the coal empties occured on New Years Day with NS 1070 leading IAIS SD38-2s 151 and 153 and ES44AC 509. Fellow Quad Citian Tom McNair and I chased it from Fairfax, IA to Iowa City where we gave up due to lost light and a timeframe to get home.

1. Passing the ex-MILW depot at Amana, IA.

2. Crossing the Iowa River at Iowa City, IA.

Great shots Erik. I am amazed the Amana depot is still standing, I shot it in 1980 when it was painted MILW two-tone grey, and the track looked a lot worse. Thanks for sharing.

Nice catch! If I knew that was running I would have drove out to Amana and chased it as well. Nice shot going by the depot there.
