Indio Industrial Switcher and Windmills
Author: erielackawanna

Couple more shots from the Presidents Day adventure in the So Cal desert.

Image one is the LOE53 Indio Industrial Switcher in Coachella.

Image two is the same train in its namesake town of Indio. This is a Monday only op and uses pretty big power for a switcher.

Windmill windmill in San Timeteo Canyon (great to see some of the usual suspects out there).

Nice images! I still have to get used to seeing an ES in switching duties!

Someone needs to weather up their HO scale model... They can't stay factory fresh out of the box forever. Thanks for sharing!

Charles,
It has been a LONG, LONG time since I worked LA to Indio. In photo #2 is the engine on the old yard side and you are looking SP west (UP north)?

The other way, V - camera is pointed east, towards Coachella. Palm Springs is behind me.

Sorta just East of the old enginehouse site? There sure used to be a lot more there then than now.

Don't know where that was, but there's a lot of open dirt out of frame to the right there. And behind me was a fairly new Greyhound parking lot. Easily could have been RR property all of it.

Enginehouse was on the North side of the tracks, East of where the Greyhound/SP Depot area
stood.

Okay, that would be the far left (out of frame).

So the old main hiway through Indio is on the right?

Yes, that is correct. The old highway is to my right... and the 10 Freeway is to the left.

Chalres shot #2 from about the center of this Google Maps aerial view, above "Indio Blvd"- http://goo.gl/maps/vUBLP The loco is kept on the north side, so when the crew wants to switch the area in the #2 photo, they have to run 4 miles down to the Coachella Xover, then return to Indio.

The last time I worked the LA/Indio pool was in 1971. So much has changed it's hard to remember what was where. Thank you both for the info.

Nice report Charles!

Am I seeing it right, a westbound windmill train in San Tim?? Love shot #2.

I was lucky enough to catch the LOE53 on a Monday in March of last year. Quick and fun job to chase.

Westbound loads, yes... surprised us too.

Thank you to you (and all) for the kind words.
