First Giddings Sub detour train I've seen come through
Author: PALuvR

A post down a couple from this one talks about the UP Giddings Sub being closed. UP is having a MOW "blitz" from March 1 through March 6 for major tie replacement and rail and bridge work. Rather than work by curfews, they just shut it down for 6 days. I read this involves rerouting about 25 trains a day. The first one I've seen came through N. Bergstrom in South Austin about 13:50 today. Was a SB sand train with 3x2 power. It went into Bergstrom siding for 2 NBer's then continued on south heading for San Antonio. These trains normally come off the Giddings Sub at West Point then west on the Smithville Sub then Lockhart Sub to San Marcos where they enter the Austin Sub for the run to San Antonio.

1. NB train of empty well and spine cars holding the main.
2. Loaded sand train taking the siding
3. Meeting the NBer

I'm looking forward to a week of detours coming through here. Although I can drive to Lockhart or San Marcos to catch these trains, it's kinda nice to only drive 10 minutes which allows for spur-of-the-moments fanning.

I was messing around with the camera trying to get good exposures on another cloudy day. Haven't seen much sun in several weeks. This will explain some the difference in several shots. Sorry about that.

I appreciate y'all taking a look. Hope to have more as the week progresses.

Mike

7. ALDAR? NB comes around the DPU's
8. A little "Bondo" work on the short hood
9. One of a trio of Wisconsin Central hoppers

Great shots Mike!
For the time being I am limited to the house, truck decided to take a nose dive and now I am looking for a new ride.
Maybe I can borrow one from the auto racks from Mexico.

Oh well.
