This past weekend brought a few inches of "fun" to Central Oklahoma after a fairly uneventful winter. Here's a few photographs during breaks in the actual ice/snowfall.

BNSF ES44C4 7984 is the lead unit on a southbound intermodal on the Red Rock Subdivision just south of downtown Oklahoma City as it passes the power of a southbound unit corn syrup train tied down on Main 1. The power at right is the DPU of a southbound unit grain train that was also tied down on Main 1.

Meanwhile, north of downtown OKC, a southbound intermodal was also tied down on Main 2 behind the BNSF 8019. This is just south of the former Santa Fe Nowers Yard and a frequent place to stop southbounds without blocking any grade crossings.


Over on the Union Pacific's Oklahoma City Subdivision, UP SD60M 2325 is the eastward facing unit on a SD60M/SD70M/SD60M lashup tied down on the stub of the former Rock Island mainline that lead to the former RI freight house and a connection with the Santa Fe. These three units have been in a more or less captive service on a local between Oklahoma City and Chickasha; it had operated with a SD60M/SD60/SD60M combination fairly recently.

On Sunday, March 1st, the Arkansas-Oklahoma operated from Shawnee to Oklahoma City to work the interchange with the UP; here's the train returning behind GP30 2411 and GP35 4510 on the former Rock Island between McLoud and Dale, OK.

Any idea why they are tying down stack trains? Still short of crews?

Crews running OKC south are based in Alliance, TX. As you know, the weather down there hasn't been kind at all lately.
