Wind River Canyon Rail Line
Author: planethike

Hey,

I was wondering if anybody knew what kind of shape the BNSF line from Laurel, MT down to Casper is in?  1.) How many trains a day does it get,  is it signalled?/ what Class is the trackage?

Thanks!

Good for 49mph. Dark Territory. Anywhere from 1-10 a night.

I look at the Wyoming Highway Department  cameras daily but yet to catch a train in the canyon.  There are two views.  So they must be at night.

I think if a glacier were ever to drift down from Canada again into North Dakota and block the BNSF's ex GN, NP and MILW mains across North Dakota, the Wind River line might get very busy.  But it may take about 20,000 years at the earliest for anything like that to come to fruition.
