Western Railroad Discussion > Crossing the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, NEDate: 05/18/15 16:40 Crossing the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, NE Author: bnsfsd70 Coming home from Omaha on Sunday, one of my targets was to photograph BNSF's new bridge over the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, NE. After watching a few eastbounds go by, I finally caught the BNSF 4000 leading a westbound oil train across the new bridge. This train had come north on the Napier Sub and turned west at Pacific Jct. in Iowa, which is amazingly visible in the background, some 4 miles east of here. While the clouds had been coming in and out all day, I was still happy to catch this one while I did. All this does is remind me to come back someday for better/more shots!
Of note, the 4000 had been involved in a 2012 oil-based wreck, but in this case it struck a truck full of it, and the results can be seen in photo 3, which I took at the Topeka shops on 9/3/2012. Thanks for looking, - Jeff Carlson Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/18/15 22:00 by bnsfsd70. Date: 05/18/15 17:26 Re: Crossing the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, NE Author: texchief1 Nice shots!

The St. Joseph Subdivision is a wee bit to your West in this shot, about 30 some miles back in Lincoln. If this train came from the South, it would have came off the Napier Subdivision.
-Dalton Date: 05/18/15 21:58 Re: Crossing the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, NE Author: SilvertonRR100 I thought the old bridge was to be the westbound direction for the lighter empty trains, with the new bridge for the heavier loaded eastbound trains.

They put empty trains in there only when making a meet. Best regards, Rob L. Date: 05/19/15 10:59 Re: Crossing the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, NE Author: bnsfsd70 Thanks for the info with this. I'm sure that as soon as they can extend the double track to Pacific Jct. it'll get used for more again.
