Speakers and a Blue light?

This shed is located near Dunsmuir, CA on the UPRR. Anyone know what these speakers are for? What about the light?

Probably a light and klaxon to alert MofW taht a train is coming.  Had seen that at Hermosa interlocking in Wyoming many years ago.

I'd like to see and hear that :-)

A couple trains passed this location so it isn't something that is fired up at all trains. Maybe the DS activates it?

That may be a claxon and light that is activated by the MOW and signal crews when working in the area. That's the way they worked on the UP proper. They would turn them on when going to work there and shut them off when they leave.

I think Bob is correct.  Blue light means workers present..not that a train is coming.

So if the MOW activated it, would that mean that the blue light would be on steady or flashing at all times (until turned off) or somehow triggered by occupancy or an approaching train?
I can't imagine the claxon being on for very long...how would it be triggered?
Seems like this would be a fun one to install on a model railroad and surprise new operators :-)

This. It's only for MOW. It doesn't affect train movement in any way.

the speakers at interlocking locations were for contacting MW and signal employees working in the interlocking if the disp could not contact the employees via radio ...

Thank you everyone for the replies. I'm always amazed at the quality answers to "I wonder what that is" questions that pop into my head.
