GE Demo in Southern Iowa
Author: Agent

Thanks to the help of a friend, I arrived in Ottumwa, Iowa just in time this morning to catch empty coal train CP 823 come through town led by a GE Tier IV demonstrator unit.  I've never seen a GE demo unit before.  Is this called a ET44AC?

At 12:23, I was told this train was about to leave the Canadian Pacific yard and get on the BNSF to head west with GECX 2027 on the rear.  Due to the nature of connection between the two railroads, the end of a southbound becomes the front of a westbound on the BNSF, typically with a rearrangement of the power.  That means the new leader is probably one of these other five units:

BNSF 8523 EMD SD70ACe
BNSF (ex-BN) 9597 EMD SD70MAC
BNSF 8764 EMD SD70ACe
BNSF 8790 EMD SD70ACe
BNSF 5615 GE AC4400CW

Nice catches---not many have been seen around this area just yet.

When they were roaming thru Ritzville, WA for the past couple of months, I just called them Big Blue's, lol. Enjoy them while you can.
