Union Pacific 4141...the George HW Bush SD70ACe

Oh...I hesitate to ask this question...someone will most assuredly tell me to "search" but, whatever happened to this UP locomotive?  The last I heard it was "parked" at NLR.

Thanks for any kind and patient response.

Still sitting in North Little Rock at the Jenks Shops under tarp... Comes out ever so often for testing can be seen if you go into main parking lot.

And before it starts all over again please remember it belongs to the UP and if they want to park an almost new locomotive where it is protected, they can.    They own it.

I'll work on sending you a rather dull photo of the white tarp covered 4141 next time I'm in NLR.... :-)

It's on standby if needed for a funeral train.

Not much to see with the tarp over it, but this is what it looked like July 2014.

Yes, because dead people are the only ones who have the time to travel intercity by rail in the USA these days;-)

That tarp looks like it was made for one of the steam engines the way it's cut out around the radiators.

Perhaps jeb! will use the unit to put together a cross country campaign train in the Truman tradition. Oh, that's right he is running as a jeb! and not a Bush. Maybe a locomotive commerating his father pulling him around is not the image he wants to put forth.

Just search the million prior posts that talk about it being used for funeral duty. Same discussion comes around 3 times a year :)

If I were Elder Bush, I would not want a locomotive comemmorating me to sit in a yard for years waiting so that it could be in mint condition to pull my funeral train. And whenever Bush is in bad condition, it advances menacingly: I remember a few years ago, when Bush had a heart attack or some other medical emergency in Houston, the 4141 left NLR alone and rolled down to Houston to be ready. When he recovered, it was promptly sent back to NLR. It looks like we won't see the engine for a while now: Bush recently went skydiving on his 90th birthday.

Had I been a more questioning person, I might have wondered if it was actually a political move, to keep the Bush's comemmorative engine grounded in a yard. I mean, it's easy to shine up an engine and inspect its prime mover when you want it to be clean and working well. (Garbage? Probably. I'm just throwing that out there.)

That tarp appears to have been a "Fastwraps" job.  They aren't worth a damn and if you are hoping to protect a valuable asset from the weather with a fastwrap, forget it.  They are shoddy, they come apart like that and the company tells you "tough", despite their warranty claim.

The livery on UP 4141 is drived from that worn by the aircraft that have carried U.S. Presidents since President Kennedy.

The scheme was arranged by industrial designer Raymond Loewy at the request of the President and Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy.
