CN Nightcrawler @ Dunsmuir
Author: RyanWilkerson

If BNSF has the earthworm train, maybe we can call this CN grainer the nightcrawler. Anyway, CN #2296 lead the GMP2FO south through Dunsmuir tonight. After a quick crew change, it was on the move. The power setup is two CN units up front and two CNs on the rear, all facing forward. The previously mentioned (in other threads) mid-train UP DPUs were removed at Klamath Falls, OR.

These grain/canola trains often used to grace the BNSF Gateway Sub. Wish they would return!

Must be quite a few of these running around. A CN loaded grain? Train just arrived in Roseville with 4 up front all elephant style. 945am.

Would that be a northbound train? I believe they run 2x2 on loaded trains (southbound) and then put all the power in the front for the return trip north. Do you have a unit number on the leader?

That's correct. Helper consists are not allowed on northward (non intermodal) trains north of Lakehead. The symbol for the the train in Ryan's picture is the GMP2IV-28. Headed for Ivory on one of the shortlines out of Fresno.

Nice photos, Ryan!  I was hoping it was going to pass while the sun was still up (here in Mount Shasta).

As I understand it, these are feed lot Canola Meal trains for feed lots in California.
